our history

Welcome to the Lauderhill Seventh-day Adventist Church. We are a congregation where, through Christ, hearts are united, relationships nurtured, and lives transformed.

Our church is a place for friends and visitors from around the world to come in with their families and join us for worship, fellowship and prayer. We hope our greetings will convey the sincere pleasure we feel in having you visit us and pray that you will be richly blessed from our services.

The history of the Lauderhill Seventh-day Adventist Church is one of growth and development. It started its early beginning in 1978 with a small group of 54 visionary Caribbean immigrants who had a desire to advance the work of God in the city of Lauderhill and surrounding communities. They met weekly for prayer and Sabbath services in the home of the late Linton & Myrtle Graham, at 1091 43rd Avenue, Lauderhill.

The church was organized and received into fellowship by the Florida Conference on October 16, 1982. The newly elected officers amongst others, were the late Elgin Amos, First Elder, Eccle Sterling, Youth Director, and the late Reginald Sterling, Church Treasurer. Pastor William Kirlew was appointed by the Conference to lead the group. Pastor Leroy Liburd joined the group on March 5, 1982 and he also assisted.
Rapid church growth followed under the leadership of Pastor William Kirlew, resulting in their first tent evangelistic outreach program held in June of 1982 by Pastor Leroy Liburd. By the end of 1984, the church membership grew to 99, and in March 1985, Pastor Liburd was then officially appointed by the Florida Conference to lead the congregation which had grown to 141. Due to its growth the members rented church properties at 1551 NW 42nd Court, Lauderhill, and 2412 NW 19th Street, Fort Lauderdale, for Sabbath services for almost five years, and continued their Sunday and Wednesday night services in the home of the late Linton & Myrtle Graham.

The property located at 4100 NW 11 Court, Lauderhill, was purchased in 1985. The ground-breaking service for commencement of a new edifice took place on Sunday, July 19, 1986. The theme was “We’ve Come this Far by Faith.” Construction of the new edifice began in October 1986, with Elders John Spence, Noel Graham, and Neville Williams along with members and friends who worked tirelessly, sometimes night and day to complete deadlines. The sanctuary was completed within 8 months and the dedication service was held on June 13-14, 1987.

Under the leadership of Pastor Leroy Liburd, the longest serving pastor of over 19 years, Pastors Creaton Francis, Roydel Maxwell, the late Lincoln Llewelyn, Garfield Blake, Burnet Robinson Lester Elliott, Andrew-Craig Nugent, Claude Hardcastle and our current Pastor, Garry A. Gordon, the church continues its growth with the organization of the Sunrise congregation, church expansion and renovation, Community daycare center, preschool, local food bank and other outreach programs geared toward the community of Lauderhill. Numerous individuals have come to know the Lord over the years. The current membership stands at 950.

As we reflect on our journey during the past 41 years, we can only offer tributes of praise to our God for leading in the lives of the early believers and thank Him for their Christian foresight and vision. We also recognize the Pastors who have been instrumental in leading this congregation from its small beginning as well as the many members and friends of the community who have contributed significantly in many ways to the growth and development of our church. We pledge our loyalty to Him that we will continue this great work which He has begun in the Lauderhill Seventh-day Adventist Church situated at 4100 NW 11th Court, in the City of Lauderhill.
